Electric Bass Guitar Lessons

Contact me for in-person or online bass guitar lessons at dan@xofwandsmusic.com. As of 2023, I am based in Astoria Queens, New York near Ditmars Boulevard. I offer lessons at 30, 60, and 90 minutes and provide discounts when bundling multiple lessons together.

To get started, tell me who the lessons are for, the student's experience level, what you're looking to accomplish, and any specific questions you have for me. Prior to our first lesson, we can set up a free trial session to go over more details and make sure you feel like it's a good fit before moving forward. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!

My Experience

I have a B.S. in Music from the University at Albany (2014). At U Albany, I was a music theory teaching assistant for 2 years and graduated summa cum laude with an additional degree in Business Administration. At the end of 2021, I won first place in a national bass solo competition. In addition, I have a YouTube channel with over 150,000 views and an endorsement with La Bella Strings.

Since moving from Rockland to Brooklyn in 2016, I have played in live bands around the city to sold out shows. Some stages include Mercury Lounge, Arlene's Grocery, Webster Hall, Music Hall of Williamsburg, and a few boats 🙂 When I am not playing in a group, I take my solo act to the subways to do street performing, though I have scaled that back out of safety given recent events.

I have played bass since I was 9 years old, and have been in bands ranging from school jazz band to rock, orchestra (concert and pit orchestra), ska, metal, funk, marching band, and everything in between. These days, I am working on solo material and always looking for the next big challenge.

My Approach as a Bass Teacher

As we work toward your personal goals, whether you would like to learn a specific song or develop new techniques, we will establish a foundation for practicing effectively and effortlessly. I am happy to teach fun techniques like slap bass, tapping, sweeping, harmonic bends, and the like. I would also recommend exercises for developing your feel and deepening that pocket! I can teach basic to advanced music theory, ear training, walking basslines, bass solo techniques, and how to write a great bassline to anything. Reach out and we will prioritize what You value most!
